Practical Electrofishing Course in Las Cruces March 3-6

This four day Practical Electrofishing course will include classroom and field components of backpack and boat mounted electrofishing techniques. The classroom portions of the course will be held at the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish office with field trips to Caballo Lake and the Rio Grande below Caballo Lake.

Course participants will learn basic electrofishing theory, methods to limit fish stress and injury, how to evaluate safety and performance of equipment, and enhance skill with sampling and data application. Hands-on training will be given in the use of the conductivity meter, digital multimeter and portable oscilloscope as applied to electrofishing. Furthermore, upon completion of the course participants will receive certification of formal training. Dr. Jim Reynolds will serve as instructor.
